One variety of garlic is already sending up scapes

One variety of garlic is already sending up scapes. It’s a German Red that I purchased from @northwestseedandpet. The plants appeared to be stressed while others are thriving and verdant. It’s exciting having scapes this soon but I’m a little sad about how flimsy this stock turned out to be. Luckily, every other type is kicking ass.

Someone said I was “acting like a white woman” a few days ago when I expressed a genuine fear for my safety. Black women are out here doing the impossible, but we are still human. We deserve to be protected. We should be allowed our vulnerabilities. Our full range of experiences and emotions are valid. The expectation that we will selflessly bear the burdens of this white supremacist, chauvinistic, racist, generally shit world needs to be shattered. Dear black woman: allow yourself some tenderness. Last weekend’s special made the cut to be a permanent fixture on our spring menu. Eastern Washington Asparagus, marinated with lemon juice and scallion oil snuggled up on a bed of green garlic pesto from our friends @bunkhouseacres and sheep’s milk cheese from @blacksheepcreamery! Local eggs from Honeybear Farm here in Olympia are boiled then pickled with some beet pickling liquid we have been holding on to (it’s hard to toss that beautifully tart purple juice!) and some cured yolks from the same chickens to add a little salt in a different way.
